White Sox Fire Vice President Kenny Williams, General Manager Rick Hahn appeared in the original NBC Sports Chicago
the Chicago White Soxmired in one of the worst seasons in recent memory, have shaken up their front office leadership by firing their executive vice president. Kenny Williams and general manager Rick Hahn.
White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said in a statement, “This is a very difficult decision for me because they are two talented people with longstanding relationships at the White Sox. Ken is like a son to me, and I will always consider him a member of my family. I want to thank Ken and Rick.” Personally for everything they have done for the Chicago White Sox, winning the 2005 World Series and making it to the postseason multiple times during their tenures I have nothing but the greatest respect for them as people and appreciate the commitment and passion for the White Sox they have shown over the years.
“At the end of the day, the prevailing cliché that professional sports is results-oriented is true,” Reinsdorf said. While we have had successes as an organization and have been optimistic as we head into the competitive window of this rebuild, this year has proven to be very disappointing for all of us on many levels. This led me to conclude that the best decision moving forward was to make a change in the leadership of our baseball department.”
The White Sox are currently 49-76 on the season, 21 games out of the American League wild card chase. The team is poised to have probably one of the worst 162-game seasons in team history, bringing an amazing end to a rebuilding process that started with tons of promise after the acquisitions of Lucas Giolito, Dylan Cisse, Luis Robert, Eloy Jimenez, among others. .
Williams has been with the White Sox since 1992, and has held the position of Executive Vice President since 2011. He was the general manager when the White Sox won the World Series in 2005, after an 88-year drought. He held this role from 2001 to 2011, overseeing clubs that made the play-offs on two different occasions.
Hahn has been the team’s general manager since 2011, overseeing a rebuild that led to back-to-back playoff appearances in 2020 and 2021.
Last year, the White Sox missed the postseason, which led them to hire Pedro Grifoll as the club’s manager. They’ve struggled a lot this season, and they’re 27 games short of .500 going into Tuesday’s game against Seattle.
According to the White Sox, the search for a “single decision maker” will begin immediately.
